Do you have a tree with this fungi growing on it? Contact us to assess its risk.
There are many fungi that occur naturally in Washington, along with the rest of the world. They can help decompose chemical structures inside trees that would otherwise be difficult to breakdown. While fungi does play an essential role in forest health, seeing this on a tree in your yard indicates active rot occurring and the potential failure of the tree.
The cross section photo shows the affect of the fungus "eating" the Lignin (a polymer that aids in structural integrity) in the middle of the tree. The presence of this fungus can increase a trees level of risk drastically.
If you see a fungus growing on your tree or in the root zone, reach out to us for an inspection/ Tree Risk Assessment.
